Date : 10/03/10 Ref : 29/2010 GHA Nurses present new treatment at Spanish Conference Two of GHAs senior and experienced nurses have been invited to present a new leading edge treatment, which they have been using in St Bernards Hospital, at a Nursing Conference in La Linea next month. Sister Gizelle Tosso and Staff Nurse Luis Perez, from the GHAs Critical Care Unit, are to present a workshop at a chronic wound and pressure sore management conference, to be held in the Palacio de Congresso on March 11th. They will be describing their experiences of using a vacuum assisted wound healing machine, called the Vac Therapy Wound Manager. The conference organisers were eager to hear about this machine which provides a simple but effective method of promoting wound healing by removing excess fluid, promoting blood flow and reducing the amount of bacteria in patients wounds. A portable version of the technology is also available for use in the community. Sister Tosso and Staff Nurse Perez have been very pleased with the treatment results and are of the view that this machine has proven to be of great benefit to patients. Minister for Health & Civil Protection, Yvette Del Agua said this is just another example of the high standards of care and treatment that Gibraltars healthcare system has to offer. The GHA is very proud that SR Tosso and SN Perez have been asked to share their knowledge and expertise with colleagues in much larger organisations. The Conference will also be attended by other nurses from the GHA. |
