Senior Citizens Newsletter

The 10th Annual General Meeting of the association was held on the 24th February at the John Mackintosh Hall where we are sorry to say only 20 persons attended. It is a matter of concern and one which shall have to be considered by the association that whereas there is apparent interest in the affairs of the association when there are so many inquiries every day of the week regarding panic buttons, smoke alarms, special prices and discounts and many others on a multitude of issues, attendances at AGM are so extremely low. Notice of the AGM was published 3 newsletters in succession in the media and also via a mailing list to over 30 recipients.

At this meeting the President’s report included condensed summary of the association’s activities throughout its inception and this was applauded by the floor.

The recently finished document detailing the senior citizens’ entitlements in questions and answers format was read and the members were informed that this could be obtained on request from both the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Office of the Ombudsman.

Thanks.

The association is grateful to Messrs. GTR Technical Systems of 14, Kings Street for their offer of 15% discount to senior citizens. GTR has been added to our special prices and discounts list and we suggest that those who already have a copy should add this latest offer.
Also our sincere thanks to the young gentleman from the Debentures department who, when the Treasury Building’s lift was out order, came down to the ground floor to attend a couple of senior citizens and thus avoided them the arduous climb to the Debentures office.

Computers Fun Day.

Yet once again a representative of the association was present at the Computer Fun Day held by the Citizens Advice Bureau on Tuesday 2nd at Bleak House. The event was as usual well attended and the number of volunteers who offered to help also saw an increase this year. We are very pleased to see so many senior citizens taking up this very useful technology.

We informed the “students” that as soon as they enjoyed e mail facilities, we could keep them abreast of the association’s activities by mailing us at gibseniors@gibtelecom.net This service is of course open to all seniors who wish to avail themselves of our newsletters, updated price lists and so on.
GHA Health Card.

Following a number of complaints regarding the personal questions being asked when renewing the Gibraltar Health Authority Health Cards, we have written to the Minister for Health requesting the deletion of the requirement to declare personal income.

We have suggested to the Minister that when senior citizens do not seek additional concessions or benefits but simply wish to renew this document, there is no reason why a declaration of personal income should be asked.
